The jamani duo is a Lethbridge-based musical duo that plays a wide variety of percussion instruments from around the world. I wanted to capture their diverse skills and bright personalities in the covers of their first album, Timeline, released in spring 2021. The album is a 6-panel spread, with a 4-page insert.
The design was very considerate of the experience of opening an album for the first time: taking in the visuals on every panel, reading the text, and looking at everything again when you listen to the album to learn more.

Matt and Jodi Groenheide are music educators, and always love explaining what all the instruments are that they play, and where they came from. Their CD is also an educational experience.
While listening to the album I thought “It would be great to see the instrument I’m hearing, especially if it’s something I haven’t heard before.” This prompted the creation of the “Meet the instruments!” section, and listing what instruments are played on each track in the insert. I had a lot of fun organizing all of the images and text so that it’s consistent and easy-to-read.
Logo update
The official logo being used was an old, jagged font, and this album design warranted an upgrade! The smoothed-out logo has kept the light-heartedness of their duo intact, while feeling fresh.
